Cristin took us to Baltimore where we walked around the Harbour and then went to Fort McHenry. We had never heard of Fort McHenry but it was where the Americans repulsed an attack by the British Navy in 1814 that prevented the capture of Baltimore and inspired Francis Scott Key to write ‘The Star-Spangled Banner’. Key was being held captive on an English ship during the battle. He did not know who had won until he saw the American flag being raised in the dawn’s early light in Fort McHenry.
How lovely to spend time with Cristin at Baltimore. Another fascinating place to see too.
